Cathedral
From far outside the city, the Cathedral's proud, slender belfry tower attracts visitors. Few buildings in the city can boast such a long rich history. A visit to the Cathedral's surroundings as well as its interior will take you through 900 years of Antwerp and European history.

How the 19th century made the city break out of its Spanish ramparts
A walk that starts at one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world: the Central Station. Via the Opera Square, Kipdorp Bridge, Terniersplaats, Leysstraat and Meir, you will be taken through stories, developments and monuments that profoundly changed Antwerp at the end of the 19th century. The walk ends at ‘Wall Street at the Scheldt’ (near Twaalfmaandenstraat).

From castle to citadel
The walk starts at Antwerp Castle, better known as Het Steen. We follow 2000 years of Antwerp history, from city expansion to city expansion, until we arrive at the Waterpoort, in the recently constructed ZuidPark. We take you through 2000 years of stories and anecdotes that made Antwerp what it is today.

Historic Antwerp
The Groenplaats, where painter, diplomat, and knight Rubens welcomes you, is the starting point. Via Jan Blom, we arrive at the Handschoenmarkt, at the main entrance of the cathedral. We continue along Suikerrui and Kaasstraat towards Vleeshuis (the meat house), and via Braderijstraat to the Grote Markt (main market square), where you'll be greeted by the impressive cathedral tower, a majestic town hall, and guild houses designed to reflect the power of their residents and the city.

The Cathedral 'mis'leads
An outstanding, almost perfect Gothic church in the heart of Antwerp... But is that really the case?
The building, the artworks, the history, the stories... are subject to intentional or unintentional disruptions to the chronological coherence of the situations or events described. Sometimes these disruptions are of historical reality, of the biblical narratives, of the coloring of and by the passage of time... Are Rubens's parents-in-law buried in the cathedral? Did Godfrey of Bouillon found the Antwerp chapter? Did John, the beloved disciple, really lie on Jesus' right breast during the Last Supper... This will be a critical and humorous encounter with the blunders of history, art, or restoration.
